‘Just to let you know… I have written to MANY people, including Dr. Thomas Szasz, Dr. Peter Breggin, Robert Whitaker, and Guen Olsen, asking for information about research done on the topic of sexual dysfunction from neuroleptics. Some have simply ignored me. Others have replied, but have not been able to give me any real direction in this matter.
Dr. Thomas Szasz, may he RIP, wrote back to me twice, and suggested I write a book, or short story, about my experiences. He said, in his words, it might “do some good in the world”. However, he could not furnish me with any information about research on the subject. Dr. Szasz authored the book, “The Myth of Mental Illness”, among others. He also co-founded the CCHR.
Dr. Breggin’s wife, Ginger, wrote back to me too, but said that that she and Dr. Breggin didn’t have any information that would help me. I hold Dr. Breggin in great respect as someone who helps people wean off psychiatric drugs. He has written a number of books, two of which I have read myself. He is a hero to many survivors of psychiatry.
Robert Whitaker also wrote back to me, stating that he intended to write something about it. He even interviewed some of the people in a SSRIsex support group I’m in quite some time ago, but we have not heard anything since, even though I wrote to him again, months ago, asking about it. I received no answer. (I was allowed to join this group of over 3000 people complaining of sexual dysfunction after taking SSRIs even though I have never taken them myself. I have not been able to find a support group like this for those of us who have sexual dysfunction from neuroleptics. Many of the people in this group have discontinued the drugs only to find the sexual side effects last YEARS after they do so, and many believe they have become permanently damaged.)
Here is the link to that group:
Guen Olsen, a former drug rep., and later whistleblower, who sold Haldol years ago, was kind enough to respond to me also. However, she she said that she did not know of any information about research in this area either. Guen is the author of the book, “Confessions of an Rx Drug Pusher”. She is now a child advocate.
Since I have not been able to find any research on the topic of my blog, I thought I could at least post some information about people (some famous) who have successfully recovered from psychosis without drugs. So, if you are visiting my site, and want to wean from psychiatric drugs, I hope that some of the information I post will help you do that.
